83-year-old wins gold at Golden Age Games

Maxine Bodman, a Legionnaire for 65 of her 83 years, returned from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Veterans Golden Age Games in Birmingham, Ala., with four gold medals. In seven years of competition at the games, she has won 27 medals (24 of them gold). This year, she won the shot put, discus, horseshoes and croquet events. Bodman, a Navy veteran from West Palm Beach, Fla., is adjutant for both the Department of Florida’s 11th District and for Palm Beach Post 12. She is also a dual member of the Legion and Auxiliary. “My hat is off to this exceptional lady,” said 11th District Commander David Knapp. “It is truly an honor to know her and to have her as a member of my staff.”
