Bucholz Army Airfield-PFC Bucholz

Named in honor of PFC Fred Henry Bucholz, Army serial #56563595. Posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in the Battle of Kwajalein on Feb. 4, 1944. All uniformed military personal on Kwajalein were part of the ceremony, as were the Girl and Boy Scouts. Also part of the ceremony was the Color Guard of the 7th Infantry Division, who arrived from Korea, and the U.S. Army Pacific Band. The keynote speaker of the ceremony was Don McAfee, who served on Kwajalein during 1944 in the Army Air Corps. The memorial has changed in design since its first construction; originally, it consisted of a bronze plaque and a picture with a frame set into a white painted concrete base.
