World War I Memorial

The design requirements set forth were straight forward: that it be large enough to express the forces of war, yet simple enough that the fathers and brothers of those who died could have built it; that it be constructed of local materials and avoid the necessity for sculptural decoration. Constructed of granite ashlar, the monument is triangular in plan and elevation, echoing the green on which it sits, and rises in a curve to the apex, giving it an organic and natural quality. Seats are built into the face of each side. Bronze tablets commemorate the lives of those lost. Inside hangs a replica of the Liberty Bell. The monument was dedicated on November 11, 1921.
