The large granite lower sections of the 7 panels around the perimeter of the memorial contain the names of Sioux Center area servicemen and veterans. The names, going as far back as WWI, are listed alphabetically by conflict, with branch of service following each name. Pictorial montages of each of our nation's conflicts are etched into the black granite panels above the names, beginning with the Revolutionary War, and include several pictures submitted by local veterans. The 27' central section features a stainless steel eternal flame sculpture with the words "Lest we Forget" around its bowl, supported by 5 granite legs, each with an emblem of one of the 5 branches of service. A timeline of important events in our nation's history is etched into the granite backs of the bench surrounding the base, a project of the local high school history class.
