Sculpture: bronze; Base: bronze and concrete SUMMARY: The County war memorial consists of an eight-sided base, tapered toward the top with plaques on each side, and an eagle in flight at the top. Each plaque has a national or state Seal or an insignia for a military branch and text. The work is installed in a circular plaza and is surrounded by a low wall with additional plaques. These plaques detail war events and people and list memorial donors. Among those honored in nearby plaques are: Sergeant Major William "Willie" Harrington III, Buffalo soldier (18494-1994); David Carl Schilling (1918-1956), George Seanor Robb (1887-1972), the U.S. Merchant Marine, Shilliing Air Force Base and Shilling waiting wives, Smoky Hill Army Air Field, the K-9 Corps, Prisoners of World War II, the Infantry Division at Camp Phillips, Camp Phillips Air Force Base, Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, USO, American Red Cross, Nurses and Women in the Military. Also part of the memorial is a Walk of Honor, an area containing bricks that individuals could have inscribed with names of loved ones or messages.
