Montana Military Museum
State level military museum established in 1984 dedicated to telling the story of Montana's rich military heritage from the first journey of the Lewis & Clark Expedition (Corps of Discovery) 1804-1806 to the current operations of the Global War on Terror. The Corps of Discovery traversed the now State of Montana in 1805-1806 in the longest portion of the Expedition. That experience brought explorations of the military to develop trade in the West first by use of land and water routes; In the 1860's post American Civil War development brought the area into the territories of the United States. Territorial militias were developed that be came the Montana National Guard that was engaged in the Spanish-American War and Philippine-American conflict; the Mexico-America Boarder conflict 1916; World War One; Between the Wars; World War II, The Cold War to include Korean War, Vietnam War, the Brush fire wars, Desert Shield/Desert Storm; OOTF conflicts of the 1990-2000; the Global War on Terror to include 9-11, Operations Iraqi Freedom, Operation enduring Freedom, Operation New Dawn and operations continuing today.
