Tablet on plinth, bronze plaque set on a granite slab. Inscription reads “A tribute to those who gave their lives so that we may live in freedom.” It was accepted for the city by Mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr. On the day of its dedication, a small crowd listened to brief speeches by the mayor, Manhattan Borough President Hulan E. Jack, and General Session Judge Jonah J. Goldstein, president of the Grand Street Boys Association.
