Transylvania County Veterans Memorial, Pisgah Forest

Transylvania County Veterans Memorial, Pisgah Forest
The veteran memorial at Pisgah Gardens Cemetery consists of a central stone with two wing stones on a single base. Incised on each side of the central stone is the same depiction of two men in World War II style uniforms. One, still wearing a helmet with his rifle slung over his shoulder, is carrying a wounded comrade. Shells burst around them on what appears to be an island setting. Above the inscription on each side of the wing stones are a military coat of arms. The left stone has that of the Navy and Marine Corp and the right wing shows the Army and Air Force. The Coast Guard is not represented. The memorial is flanked by two flag poles; one flying the U.S flag and the other a POW/MIA flag.
