The memorial consists of three gray granite pillars situated between two flagpoles, which fly the American and Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma flags. The memorial was dedicated in November, 2008. Central Pillar: The central pillar shows the Iowas of Oklahoma seal, and Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard insignia. The central pillar is also inscribed: IOWA TRIBE OF OKLAHOMA VETERAN’S MEMORIAL. DEDICATED NOVEMBER 2008. IN MEMORY AND RESPECT FOR THOSE TRIBAL MEMBERS THAT HAVE SERVED OR ARE SERVING IN THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES. Side Pillars: The side pillars display the names, branches of service, and periods of service of 57 tribal veterans. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force branches are represented, as are the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm (Southwest Asia) conflict periods. (Note: The Tribal Seal was adopted in 1978. It depicts a Circle of Life, with an Indian headdress with eagle feathers, a sacred smoke pipe, and plow, reflecting an agricultural heritage, inside the Circle. Fringe on the outside is symbolic of strips of buffalo hide used to make quivers. Four eagle feathers are displayed at the bottom and represent the four seasons and winds.)
