Joyce Kilmer Memorial

Simple granite stones with a lighted flagpole and bronze plaques. The memorial was a gift from prominent Pittsburgh architect Maj. Henry Hornbostel honoring famous American poet Joyce Kilmer. In the first world war, Kilmer served with the “Fight’in 69th" Infantry Division. On July 30, 1918, at the Second Battle of the Marne, a sniper’s bullet felled America’s leading poet. He was 31.
