The memorial was established in 2005 to recognize and honor the military service of all West Rockhill Township, Pennsylvania residents who selflessly served our nation. The initial project was undertaken by local veterans Fred Diseroad (Air Force)-Project Chairman, Allyn Grubb (Marine Corps)-Project Co-Chair, and Charles Guenst (Army)-Project Co-Chair along with the West Rockhill Township Park and Recreation Committee. The original project consisted of five bronze plaques containing 391 veteran names, with a central plaque recognizing the branches of service. The plaques are mounted on a concrete slab and rest on large boulders. In 2019, the West Rockhill Township Park and Recreation Committee undertook an initiative to obtain additional names of resident veterans who were not listed on the initial project. In 2020 a sixth bronze plaque, containing 74 names, was added to the memorial. The new plaque was dedicated on November 8, 2020. The memorial is the focal point of James Memorial Park and is central to the park’s walking path. A garden and brick patio provide a lovely surrounding, all backed by our nation’s flag. The memorial is a way for visitors and future generations to remember our township’s Veterans, by providing a lasting tribute for years to come.
