The monument was constructed to honor World War II veterans. A number of years ago the Lakemont Legion closed and deeded the plot and monument to the Lakemont Lions Club. The club now maintains the site and monument. Annual Memorial Day services are held at the monument on the Saturday before Memorial Day.
