The war memorial is located in the Borough of Oakmont, Pennsylvania at Pennsylvania Avenue and Allegheny River Boulevard. It is located at this intersection on the corner of the grounds of the Oakmont Carnegie Library and was installed by Residents of the Borough of Oakmont, Pennsylvania. The memorial was constructed in 1924 and dedicated to those who served in World War I on May 25, 1924. The sculptor was J. Vittori of Pittsburgh who described the sculpture as "Democracy holding the torch of Liberty in the left hand while on its knee rests a large book representing the great record of American Democracy past, present and future". In 1989, a plaque was installed which reads" In Honor of the Men and Women of Oakmont who served our Nation in War and Peace" and panels were added for WW II, Korea and Vietnam.
