The memorial honors the men killed in WWII and church members that served during WWII. Ladd Stavinoha's brother, Arnold Stavinoha, was killed in WWII. Ladd and church members decided to build grotto similar to one at the Catholic Church in Frydek, Texas. Names of members of the church that were killed in Vietnam were added in 1969.
