The Soldiers Monument

The Soldiers Monument was erected in Sheboygan's Fountain Park under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic. The monument was constructed of Barre (Vermont) granite, standing 46 feet high and weighing 80 tons. The soldier on top is at parade rest. The inscription on the monument reads: "To the Memory of the Heroes of the War, 1861-1865."

Gustavus Wintermeyer Post of Grand Army of the Republic and patriotic citizens of Sheboygan County. A Soldiers Monument committee was appointed, consisting of James H. Mead, George End, Thomas J. Blackstock, Michael Winter and John M. Kohler.
