The Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park honors area veterans - past, present and future - and the sacrifices they made in defense of our freedoms. Created through a partnership between American Legion Post 59, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 328 and the Stoughton community, the memorial was formally dedicated on Oct. 14, 2017. The park features 12 granite educational pillars chronicling major conflicts from the Civil War through the present day. Its pentagon-shaped centerpiece honors 176 Stoughton-area servicemembers killed in action, while surrounding black granite markers preserve the names of more than 5,600 local veterans. Additional features include 11 flagpoles, memorial pavers, granite benches, a bronze eagle and a time capsule dedicated to all who served.
