Alaska VA feeds veterans free meal with Legion support

An American Legion Operation Comfort Warriors grant provided an opportunity for the Alaska VA Healthcare System in Anchorage to feed 500 veterans a free meal.

The veterans appreciation meal on Nov. 7, served veterans receiving treatment within the facility, as well as low-income and homeless veterans in the community.

“It was a huge success,” said Alaska VA Director Dr. Timothy Ballard. “Kudos to The American Legion Aurora Borealis Post 21 and The American Legion Auxiliary Jack Henry Unit 1, who helped sponsor the event and provide volunteers. Special kudos to The American Legion's Operation Comfort Warriors for their assistance.

“Many veterans approached me to emphasize how appreciative they were. Thanks again for a wonderful event!”

Food that was left over served about 75 meals at the Fisher House on U.S. Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage.
