The American Legion Remembers: Fall of Kabul is Not in Vain

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Legion today reflects on the two-year anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan’s government to the Taliban. In memory of their ultimate sacrifice, The American Legion commemorates the 2,402 U.S. servicemembers who lost their lives in Afghanistan.

The American Legion National Commander Vincent J. “Jim” Troiola issued the following statement:

“Two years ago, the world stood in collective horror as we watched the collapse of Afghanistan’s government to the Taliban. For nearly 20 years, our nation’s servicemembers served there and defended our homeland from terrorists. Thousands of American veterans paid the ultimate price and many more continue to suffer from the wounded incurred during their service in Afghanistan.

“Today, The American Legion remembers the honorable service of the men and women who served, bled, and died in Afghanistan. Their sacrifice shall never be in vain nor forgotten.”
