WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Legion today responded to the heinous atrocities committed by the terrorist group Hamas who targeted innocent Israeli civilians, resulting in the loss of children, families, and American lives. As the Department of Defense redirects resources to the region, The American Legion expressed its support for the servicemembers moving further into harm’s way.

The American Legion also called on Congress to prioritize national security by ensuring military leadership confirmations, military is fully funded, and U.S. servicemembers are paid.

The American Legion National Commander Daniel J. Seehafer issued the following statement:

“We pray for our friends in Israel and mourn the loss of innocent American lives at the hands of Hamas’ terrorists. We grieve for those who have lost loved ones, hope for the humanity and safe return of those taken, and remain hopeful for families waiting to know.

“The American Legion extends its unwavering support for our troops abroad. The safety of our servicemembers is vital to our success in deterring further escalation.

“Congress must keep America safe and get to work. We cannot jeopardize our national security, nor undermine the progress made to create peace in the Middle East.”
