Now that retired Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooress has been released from jail, National Commander Helm is calling for immediate treatment of the veteran's post-traumatic stress disorder.
American Legion National Commander Michael D. Helm issued the following statement regarding Mexico’s decision to release U.S. Marines Corp veteran Andrew Tahmooressi:
"The American Legion rejoices that a Mexican judge has ordered the immediate release of Andrew Tahmooressi. The American Legion has long believed this Marine Corps hero’s detainment was unjust. Now, the most important concern for The American Legion is that Andrew Tahmooressi receive immediate treatment for his post-traumatic stress. It is a very serious condition that affects thousands of veterans who have answered their nation’s call. Mr. Tahmooressi and his family will find no shortage of American Legionnaires eager to assist him with his transition home.”
