TALMA media training will be in-person and virtual

The lineup has been set for the Media Training Workshop, sponsored by The American Legion Media Alliance (TALMA), at national convention in Phoenix on Monday, Aug. 30.

The session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 4 p.m. Pacific time with a 90-minute break for attendees to get lunch on their own. It will take place in the Phoenix Convention Center, North Building, Room 230. 

For those not attending the national convention, the entire session will be broadcast live on The American Legion’s National Headquarters Facebook page. During each 30-minute session, attendees will be able to ask questions regardless of whether they are in person or watching virtually.

The agenda (subject to change) follows:

Morning session: Emcee, Henry Howard. Liaisons, Jeff Daly and Katie Chrisman

8:30 a.m.: Introductions, TALMA recap, etc. Media and Communications Commission Chairman Walter Ivie.

9 a.m.: How to obtain credibility with local print and electronic media to have articles published. Panelists: Henry Howard and Josh Marshall

9:30 a.m.: Video and design resources from national and where to find them. Panelist: Holly Soria

10 a.m.: Interviewing techniques. Panelist: Matt Grills  

10:30 a.m.: Tips for improving your writing. Panelist: Matt Grills  

11: a.m.: How to start your own podcast. Panelist: Jeff Daly

11:30 a.m.: Lunch break (on your own)

1 p.m.: TALMA awards and presentations by Phoenix and Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau staff. Chairman Ivie. 

1:30 p.m.: Best practices for newsletters. Panelists: Jared Morgan and Jason Reed
