American Legion at forefront of event that honors men and women who have fallen in service to their country.
For the second straight year, The American Legion will serve as presenting sponsor of this evening’s Warrior Appreciation Night (WAN) at Dal Toro in the Palazzo in Las Vegas. Medal of Honor recipients Mike Thornton and Tom Norris are among the distinguished quests at the event, joining military authors, active-duty servicemembers, veterans, members of the law-enforcement community and celebrity guests.
The invitation-only event will feature more than 1,000 guests and provide them with an opportunity to reflect upon and honor their fallen brethren, veterans and law-enforcement officers.
“Being the presented sponsor gives The American Legion some really good publicity,” said Legionnaire Mark Ochsenbein, a member of the WAN board of directors. “It’s a great opportunity to get The American Legion out there, and it’s a great way for us to help honor our military and veterans. There’s a great upside to our involvement.”
In addition to a dinner and social event, the night will include live and silent auctions, where firearms, shooting sports equipment, targets, training, and sports and entertainment memorabilia will be among the items available for bidding.
Remington Defense is the event’s industry sponsor. Other sponsors are the Stars and Stripes Foundation, Law Enforcement United, America’s Mighty Warriors, Lone Survivor Foundation, Honor The Fallen, Stand By the Wounded, Operation K9 and NSWKids.
In conjunction with WAN, The American Legion is one of seven veterans and law-enforcement support charities that will receive funds from an online raffle coming to an end at noon PST today. One hundred percent of the proceeds from raffle tickets purchased in the name of one of the seven specific charities will go to that charity.
The United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) is hosting the raffle on its website. Those interested in participating in the raffle can purchase raffle tickets for $10 apiece, and select the charity that they want their raffle donations to benefit. Each raffle package includes a custom rifle, shotgun and pistol, as well as other outdoor sports items. Participants don’t need to be present at the WAN event to win.
USPSA will present The American Legion with 100 percent of donations collected from the online raffle at the WAN event; the donations will go toward Legion programs.
