Miss Veteran America competition coming to nation's capital

On Sun. Oct. 9, women veterans from across the country will vie for the opportunity to be crowned Miss Veteran America. Twenty-five finalists plan to put their best foot forward during the event hosted by Master of Ceremonies and Celebrity Co-Host actor Lamman Rucker and “Glamputee” Mistress of Ceremonies Marissa Strock, a Purple Heart recipient and combat disabled veteran.

The Miss Veteran America title and event was established five years ago in an effort to shine a national spotlight on homelessness amongst the women veteran population – a cause near and dear to Final Salute Inc., a national nonprofit organization that assists homeless women veterans and their children attain suitable housing and prepares them to reintegrate back into the civilian workforce.

Created in honor of the more than 2 million women who volunteered to serve their country in the United States and abroad, the competition highlights the strength, courage and sacrifice of our nation’s military women and serves as a reminder of the women in uniform who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

"These women are mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, service members, and advocates,” said Maj. Jaspen Boothe, founder of Final Salute Inc. “You will witness them elegantly walk the stage in an evening gown, perform a talent, tell their military story, and express why they give back. Even a few of these veterans are disabled – physically and emotionally – but that doesn’t prevent them from fighting to change the discussion around homeless women veterans."

The 2016 Ms. Veteran America competition will begin at 7 p.m. at Sidney Harman Hall in Washington, D.C. for more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
