Latin American Post 840 and Auxiliary Unit 840 spearheaded a fundraising effort to completely renovate the Puerto Rican Medal of Honor Grove in The Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge. Since 1978, the post has held annual memorial ceremonies at the Grove. On May 26 they held the re-dedication of the new obelisk along with an annual memorial ceremony.

The project cost an estimated $50,000. Donations came from Goya Foods, Inc., Friends of the Medal of Honor Grove, Philadelphia City Council and many other generous donors. The Philadelphia Inquirer did a story on the re-dedication. The original obelisk was dedicated in 1977.
