100 Miles for Hope: How to understand how your donation is going to help veterans

Proceeds from The American Legion 100 Miles for Hope go to its Veterans & Children Foundation (V&CF). Since its founding in 1925, the foundation has delivered more than $30 million in financial assistance to disabled veterans and military families.

Income from the foundation investments is used to fund Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation programs and Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA), which provides funds to minor children of active duty or American Legion members.

The foundation funds training and education resources for 3,000 accredited American Legion service officers who assist disabled veterans with accessing the VA health care benefits they deserve as part of their service to America. At any one time, service officers are working more than 750,000 benefits claims for disabled veterans and their families — at no cost to the veteran or their family.

The V&CF also provides TFA grants to military families in need. These families, with minor children in the home, are facing unexpected financial hardships that threaten their stability. These one-time grants are used to cover housing, utilities, food and other basic needs for families with minor children at home.
