Benjamin E. (Ben) Headen was elected as a national vice commander of The American Legion on Aug. 28, 2025, during the 106th National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
Headen graduated from Amphitheater High School in Tucson, Ariz., and in 1984 he joined the Air Force. During his enlistment he was awarded multiple Air Force commendations. After leaving the military he continued his career as a surgical technician and surgical first assistant, substitute teacher and a high school coach. During his tenure, he had the honor of coaching two state championship teams.
Headen joined The American Legion Roy Fourr Post 24 in Tombstone, Ariz., in 2011 and is an honorary life member. He is also an active member in the Sons of The American Legion and American Legion Riders at Post 24. He has served in many positions at the post, district and department levels. Headen was elected Department of Arizona commander in 2021 and currently serves on the National Convention Commission.
His three kids are all veterans and members of Post 24. His grandsons, Jase, Luke and Rowan, are members of the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 24. Heden looks forward to sharing this experience with his new wife, Amy.
