Jerry Landkamer

National Vice Commander

Jerry Landkamer was elected as a national vice commander of The American Legion on Aug. 28, 2025, during the 106th National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

A Vietnam veteran, Landkamer’s eligibility in The American Legion comes from his service in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif., with Fighter Squadron 1 (the first commissioned F-14 Squadron), and then onboard the USS Enterprise CVAN-65.

A Legionnaire since 1975, Landkamer is a member of American Legion Post 16 in Norfolk, Neb., where he serves on the honor guard. He has held offices at every level of the organization, including post, county, district and area. Landkamer served as Department of Nebraska commander from 2006 to 2007. He also served as an Alternate National Executive Committeeman 2008-2012, and National Executive Committeeman 2012-2016.

Landkamer served on numerous national commission and committees for The American Legion including Americanism, Law & Order and Homeland Security, Veterans Preference Committee, National Executive Committee liaison, Legislative Committee, and Committee on Committees. He has been involved in the Washington Conference since 2004, serving as a national legislative vice chairman for Nebraska since 2016.  He has also been active with Cornhusker Boys State.  

Landkamer is a member of The Sons of The American Legion, ANAVICUS, Past Department Commander’s Club, the Knights of Columbus, and is a lector and Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk, Neb.  He is employed by Lou’s Thrifty Way Grocery Store in Norfolk. In his spare time, he enjoys making cabinetry, furniture and other woodworks.

Married to his wife, Starla, since 1992, the couple has one son Thomas and his wife Emilea, all of whom are American Legion Family members.
