American Legion National Convention hosting job fair, career, credentialing events for vets, families

The American Legion is hosting a number of events in Milwaukee for veterans and spouses transitioning into new occupations and careers.

In conjunction with its national convention held there later this month, The American is collaborating with Hiring Our Heroes for an employment workshop Aug. 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, 509 West Wisconsin Ave. Topics will cover resume writing, financial literacy, networking and service officer claims.

The employment workshop will be followed by a career fair, Aug. 25, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The career fair will offer the opportunity for job-seekers to connect with major employers including Amazon, FedEx, Comcast NBC Universal, the state of Wisconsin, the U.S. Secret Service and many other companies and agencies.

The American Legion will also host a national higher education and credentialing summit at the Hilton Milwaukee, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. The sessions will begin with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and run throughout the days in the Empire Ballroom at the hotel’s lobby level.  Several senior White House officials will address the summit including former U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, James Rodriguez (Dept. of Labor), Shawn Skelly (Dept. of Defense). Harin Contractor (National Economic Council) and Nikki McDavid (Department of Transportation).
