Longtime Ansbach community member receives quilt from 9th JROTC

As part of the Ansbach Middle/High School academic awards ceremony on Feb. 2, the 9th Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps honored retiree and U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach community member Fred Haverly.
Haverly’s more-than-60-year career with the military began with his enlistment in 1952. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, retired from military service in 1972 as a command sergeant major, was the manager for a Class 6 store and military clothing store for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, and from 1994 to his federal service retirement in 2014 was a tax relief officer.
To honor Haverly and his service to the nation, cadets of the 9th JROTC presented him a “Quilt of Valor,” part of a grassroots movement to honor U.S. veterans.
Haverly is also an active member of Post 1982 in Ansbach, Germany.
