The American Legion World Series championship game has ended with a 1-0 score four times. In all four, the winning team captured their state’s first ALWS title.
In 2018, it was Delaware’s turn, thanks to a highlight-reel throw to first by shortstop Nate Thomas and a pitching gem by Player of the Year Chris Ludman.
The other teams to win their state’s first ALWS title via a 1-0 score: South Chicago (Ill.) Post 493 in 1931; Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Post 34 in 1967; and League City (Tex.) Post 554 in 2023.
