Legion alumni named to World Baseball Classic roster

Six of the U.S. team’s 30 players played American Legion Baseball.

Six American Legion Baseball alumni are on the U.S. team roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic, including 2026 ALB Graduate of the Year Cal Raleigh.

Seattle’s All-Star catcher will be joined on the U.S. team by fellow Legion Baseball alums Alex Bregman (Albuquerque, N.M.), Bryce Harper (Las Vegas), Gunnar Henderson (Post 20/Selma, Ala.), Michael Wacha (Texarkana, Tex.), and Garrett Whitlock (Post 233/Loganville, Ga.).

They comprise a fifth of the 30-man U.S. roster for the World Baseball Classic, the international baseball tournament which begins March 5 in Tokyo. It is a 20-team tournament, divided into four pools of round-robin play. The U.S. will be in a pool with Brazil, Great Britain, Italy and Mexico, with their games taking place in Houston March 5-11.

The top two finishers in each pool will advance to the single-elimination quarterfinals March 13-14 in Houston and Miami. Semifinals are March 15 and 16, and the championship game, March 17, all in Miami.
