The project encourages American Legion Family members to locate, document, photograph and upload information about veterans memorials and monuments in their local areas.

In part thanks to an interview with a prolific Pennsylvania contributor that ran on the American Legion national website and in the August issue of The American Legion Magazine, the Legion’s Veterans Memorial Identification Project database has well passed the 3,000 mark and now stands at just over 3,160.

The story brought in 37 new contributors, who often add multiple memorials each. The database was released to the public in November 2016, after a resolution by the National Executive Committee. The project encourages American Legion Family members to locate, document, photograph and upload information about veterans memorials and monuments in their local areas. All 50 states, and a number of foreign countries, are represented in the database; users can search by state to see what has already been submitted before embarking on recording expeditions. The most recently added are listed first. Click here to see the memorials and add new ones.
