November Impact: Big month for claims and appeals

Legion service officers and appeals reps help hundreds of veterans, free of charge, secure their VA benefits.

The American Legion’s accredited service officers and appeals representatives continued to change lives and save lives in November, providing free benefits assistance for thousands of veterans and qualified family members.

Prominently, the amount in disability benefits achieved by service officers for veterans and dependents exceeded $2 billion in October and finished the 2024-25 fiscal year by breaking the previous year’s record in the amount awarded to applicants.

Meanwhile, American Legion National Commander Dan K. Wiley made the point that “Legionnaires from every state are making their voices heard” when he delivered some of the 8,740 signed petitions to Capitol Hill on Nov. 12, in support of the Major Richard Star Act.

And the number of American Legion Junior Shooting Sports teams that have begun registration for the 2026 season is running about double that of the previous year, through November.
