New PSA urges Legion Rider, Legion Family support for the Veterans & Children Foundation

American Legion Riders National Chairman David Heredia announces goal of $1.2 million for 2026 Legacy Run, calls for registration for the ride.

In a new public service announcement, American Legion Riders National Chairman David Heredia Jr. is calling for support of The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation (VCF) from both the Legion Riders and The American Legion Family as a whole.

Heredia said the VCF has a fundraising goal of $25 million and praised the Legion Riders for bringing in $1.7 million over two previous Legacy Runs.

“That is the power of the Legion Family.  But we’re not done,” Heredia says. “As we mark the 20th anniversary of the Legacy Run, we are setting our sights even higher, with a goal of raising over $1.2 million this year for VCF.

“I am issuing a challenge to every department. Step up. Lead from the front. Let’s see which department will be the last to walk across the stage and present the largest check at this year’s national convention.”

Through VCF funding, the Legion’s Temporary Financial Assistance grants feed and house children of military personnel and veterans facing urgent, unexpected hardships. These grants prevent eviction, keep the power on and fulfill basic needs to hold a family together through difficult times.

The VCF also covers training and accreditation costs for American Legion claims experts who provide free representation for veterans and families applying for disability benefits, survivor assistance, GI Bill opportunities and more.

“Now I’m asking all of you – Riders and Legion Family alike – join us. Support this mission. Be part of something bigger than yourself,” Heredia says. “Anyone can donate at legion.org/vcf.”
