The American Legion’s podcast this week tackles issues such as the Afghanistan interpreters and Capitol security, while still finding time for lighter fare.
What do an oatmeal stout, tuna fish and drizzle sauce have in common?
Of course, they are all in the office/podcast headquarters of The American Legion Tango Alpha Lima podcast co-host Mark Seavey.
Tune in for the chuckles during the introductions and stay for the serious topics on this week’s Tango Alpha Lima podcast. Among them:
• A bipartisan group in Congress is upset with the White House’s lack of urgency with ensuring the safety of thousands of Afghan interpreters. More than a month earlier, The American Legion called for expediting the visas for the interpreters who assisted U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Even earlier, The American Legion asked the president and Congress through a 2018 National Security Commission resolution to recognize the crucial contribution Afghan and Iraqi interpreters have made and ensure they are able to come to the United States.
• Inside a nearly $2 billion bill, lawmakers are proposing $200 million for a new reaction force to aid Capitol security, following the attempted insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Co-host Ashley Gorbulja-Maldanado, who served in the National Guard, points out the spending covers other areas like the National Parks Service, Library of Congress and Federal Bureau of Prisons. “It’s pretty robust,” she said. “It’s not just the National Guard. They are a small component of this proposed bill.” But at the core of the matter, is this the right strategy for protecting the Capitol?
And, if you’re in need of more frivolity, stay tuned for the saga of Rear Adm. Jack Meehoff, highlighted in this week’s Rapid Fire segment.
