Stillwater, Oklahoma - Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery "Veteran's Garden" Memorial

The memorial consists of five gray granite pillars bounded by two flagpoles, with two granite, family-owned, benches along a grassy entryway, marked by bricks. All pillars display the names, ranks, branches of service, and periods of service of veterans. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard branches are represented, as well as a veteran who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Southwest Asia, Afghanistan, and Iraq service are shown. The large central pillar is inscribed: WHEN THEIR COUNTRY CALLED, THESE MEN AND WOMEN OF AMERICA LEFT HOMES, FAMILIES, AND THEIR YOUNG LOVES FOR MILITARY SERVICE, OF WHICH MANY NEVER RETURNED. KILLED IN BATTLES ON LAND, SEA AND IN THE AIR – ALL BELONG TO AMERICA’S GREATEST GENERATION. The two smaller interior pillars are also inscribed on the reverse side. The interior southern pillar’s reverse is inscribed: IN MEMORY OF ALL VETERANS. LET THE PEACE FOR WHICH THEY FOUGHT AND DIED BE FOUND HERE. The interior northern pillar’s reverse is inscribed: FOR THOSE RETURNED, THANK YOU GOD; FOR THOSE WHO DIED, GLORY FOREVER GOD; FOR THOSE STILL MISSING, PLEASE GOD. The flagpoles fly the American Flag on the south and the State of Oklahoma Flag on the north. Surrounding the memorial features, are the individual markers of military veterans.
