The Vietnam Veterans' Memorial

The monument entitled "After the Firefight" depicts two soldiers carrying a wounded comrade to a landing zone for evacuation and medical treatment. The monument honors the 206,000 North Carolinians who served in Vietnam, including thee 1,600 who lost their lives there. This memorial is the only one on the grounds that depicts an African American and an American Indian, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina.
