SPC Ross Hunter Duncan Memorial Highway

The memorial is a 12.2 mile, 4-lane divided segment of Interstate Highway I-35, between the OK State Highway 51 (Stillwater) and U.S. Highway 64 (Perry – Fir St.) exits. It was designated a Memorial Highway on May 12, 2008, in honor of Specialist (E-4) Ross Hunter Duncan of Perry, Oklahoma. Specialist Duncan, a member of the Choctaw Indian Nation, served as an infantryman and member of the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Infantry “Thunderbird” Brigade, including as an Instructor at the Air Assault School at Camp Gruber, at Braggs, Oklahoma. He was accidentally killed, at age 27, on October 14, 1989 while engaged in a military helicopter rappelling demonstration, at an airshow in Topeka, Kansas.
