Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1857

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1857

The post is housed in a one-story wood and partially-bricked structure with a flagpole, and M3 105mm Towed Howitzer on static display at the main entrance to the facility on Blackwelder Avenue. The howitzer is a World War II vintage light field piece used by U.S. Army Airborne units and in Cannon Companies in Infantry Regiments during the War, with a maximum range of some 7,600 meters. The split-trail weapon rests on a concrete pad and is the firing position. Post 1857 is likely no longer an active Post, as it is not listed on the 2017 VFW List of Posts.
