The coronavirus pandemic changed the way the world’s population went about its daily lives much of 2020, including American Legion Family members. Posts were forced to close down, meetings were conducted virtually and comrades went months without seeing each other in person.

But those same Legion Family members also continued to assist their communities throughout the pandemic, all while also observing patriotic holidays – including Memorial Day. Across the nation, posts and members found ways to commemorate the sacred day safely, via socially distanced parades, virtual ceremonies and drive-by events.

A year later, half of U.S. adults have been vaccinated against COVID-19, but the nation is by no means out of the woods yet. Memorial Day plans already are being put into place by American Legion Family members that are taking into account safety protocols.

We want to know how your post is commemorating Memorial Day this year, whether in a traditional manner or an adapted one. Please email sbrooks@legion.org or place your plans on Legiontown.org so we can share them in our media in advance of the day and plan potential coverage. And don’t forget to share your efforts afterward on Legiontown.
