Detachment of Colorado earns two VCF awards

American Legion Detachment of Colorado has earned two awards based on donations to The American Legion Veterans and Children Foundation from the 2019 national convention through June 1 of this year.

The Detachment of Colorado is the recipient of:

- The Harry W. Colmery Legacy Award, presented to the Sons detachment with the highest amount of donations to the foundation. Colorado donated $1,460 to VCF.

- The James A. Drain Founder’s Award, presented to the Sons detachment with the highest amount of donations per capita to the foundation. Colorado’s per capita was $19.21.

Both awards are usually presented during the Sons of The American Legion national convention. The 2020 awards will be mailed due to the cancellation of the Sons' convention.

The American Legion Veterans and Children Foundation – formerly known as the Endowment Fund – provides Temporary Financial Assistance grants to eligible active-duty servicemembers and American Legion members with minor children in the home. These grants provide immediate financial assistance when food, shelter, utilities, clothing or other basic needs cannot be obtained, due to hardships.

The foundation also supports 3,000 accredited American Legion service officers who provide free assistance to veterans and their families for health-care benefits, education and employment opportunities.
