  • Ramona Chapman Henricks, 91 years old, is a 70-year member of The American Legion and a 90-year member of the Auxiliary – her mother signed her up for the Auxiliary when she was a baby. Henricks served in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II, working as a legal secretary at the Naval Proving Ground in Dahlgren, Va. She is currently a member of Post and Unit 117 in Cerro Gordo, Ill. In August 2004, during the Auxiliary’s national convention in Nashville, she was named "World War II Woman Veteran of the Year."
  • Since June, The American Legion has held 11 Veterans Crisis Command Centers, helped more than 3,000 veterans and their families, and secured nearly $900,000 in retroactive VA benefits compensation.
