Flags. 1,840 American Legion posts participate in the Legion’s Flag Rewards program. Posts participating in the Flag Rewards program receive a 10-cent credit for each dollar spent on the purchase of American flags from Emblem Sales. Purchases include those made by the post, as well as by schools, businesses, churches and individuals that buy U.S. flags from Emblem Sales and designate their local post to receive credit for the purchase.

To get started in the Flag Rewards program, post adjutants can register their post online at https://emblem.legion.org/flag_rewards.asp.

Flag newsletter. 47,142 people subscribe to The American Legion’s Flag Alert e-newsletter; that’s an increase of 13,400 from 2016. The Flag Alert e-newsletter provides notification when the U.S. flag is to be displayed at half-staff. Subscribe to the flag e-newsletter at  www.legion.org/newsletters.

Legacy Scholarship. $744,436 – the amount The American Legion Legacy Scholarship awarded to 41 children of the fallen and disabled. The Legacy Scholarship is available for children of veterans who died on active duty since Sept. 11, 2001, or post-9/11 veterans who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or higher. The announcement was made during the Legion’s Spring Meetings in May.

The American Legion Riders have been the most dedicated fundraiser and supporter of the Legacy Scholarship through their annual Legacy Run. The 2018 Legacy Run will leave Hutchinson, Kan., on Aug. 19 and arrive in Minneapolis for the national convention. Register for the ride at  www.legion.org/riders/registration.
