A Continuous Service Award was issued on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 in Leland, N.C. Edward Wojton Jr. of Winnabow, N.C., was recognized by both Post 68 and the North Carolina Department of The American Legion for 50 years of commitment to his fellow veterans and community. Wojton also received a signed letter from the American Legion national commander congratulating him on 50 years of service.
Post 68 is all about veterans serving veterans in the Leland area. We also provide support for the North Brunswick High School JRTOC. We are very active in our community.
American Legion Post 68 is one of the fastest growing Legions in North Carolina. Originally founded in 1973, the post was revived in 2014 and has benefitted from the fast population growth in Brunswick County. In 2019 Post 68 was renamed to honor PFC John Edwin Jacobs, a soldier in the U.S. Army and the only servicemember from Leland listed as a casualty in the Vietnam War. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and was laid to rest in his family’s private cemetery, where a memorial now marks the resting place of their hero. Pfc Jacobs is listed on panel 42W, line 057 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.
Post 68’s charter stipulates that the post will hereafter be named John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68, Leland, N.C., Inc., Department of North Carolina.
