John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 would like to announce that Scout Trevor Smith has completed one of his last steps toward being awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. His final step will be his Board of Review by the Brunswick County Eagle Scout Review Board. Trevor began scouting as a member of Cub Scout Pack 747 in first grade and moved up to Boy Scout Troop 747 in the sixth grade. He is now a senior at Brunswick Early College.

To be considered for advancement to Eagle Scout, Trevor has had to meet a number of requirements including being a Life Scout for at least six months, earning a total of 21 merit badges, serving in a position of responsibility for six months, and planning and leading a service project that will benefit a local organization other than the Boy Scouts.

Under the guidance of Scoutmaster Dennis Harp and Assistant Scoutmasters Greg Gennaro and Kelly Henry, Trevor developed a plan to build a gaga ball pit at Belville Park. Working with the other members of Troop 747, Trevor planned, raised funds, directed the design and construction, and completed the game pit. After doing much research I discovered that gaga ball is one of the fastest-growing games around, so Trevor’s project will be a welcome addition to the park.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can progress to, and only a small percentage of Scouts have reached this point and only after a lengthy review. Trevor, his family and his troop can be very proud of his achievements toward earning the title of Eagle Scout.

As a sponsor of Boy Scout Troop 747, Post 68 would like to congratulate Trevor on reaching this level and wishes him the very best in the future.
