On Wednesday, Sept. 13, we attended an all-hands on the Coast Guard Air Station here in Sitka so Post 13 could present the American Legion Heroism Award to CWO William Glenzer for the events of April 1, 2023.

On the flight from Sitka to Juneau, Glenzer witnessed a disgruntled passenger having words with two flight attendants. This occurred during the landing sequence into Juneau. When the passenger "laid hands" on the attendant, Glenzer sprang into action, subdued the passenger, and turned him over to law officers upon landing.

If it was not for the actions of Glenzer, the situation could have escalated quickly and been more harmful to those around.

Post 13 communicated with USCG Commander Vincent Jansen and USCG Master Chief Kelly McCarthy, both from Sitka Air Station, to award this honor in front of his comrades and share in his day.
