Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280, Portland (Ore.) Post 158, League City (Tex.) Post 554 and Bossier City (La.) Post 202 are final four teams in the 98th ALWS.
The four semifinalists in the 2025 American Legion World Series feature a program in its fourth straight ALWS, another with 10 players from last year’s ALWS participant, and two other teams looking for their state’s second respective championships.
After three straight days of pool play caused by Thursday’s rainout, the top two finishers in each of the two divisions — the Stars and the Stripes — advanced to Monday’s semifinals.
Here’s a look at the participants, how they got here, and how you can watch and follow the games as they happen at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C.
Game 13: Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280 vs. Portland (Ore.) Post 158, 4 p.m. ET, ESPNU
Both teams come from states with one ALWS champion in their history. Portland (Ore.) Post 105 won in 1969 and Midlothian (Va.) Post 186 won in 1985.
Chesapeake: Post 280 (25-4) won the Stripes Division despite a 4-3 loss to Bossier City (La.) on Sunday, as they won the three-way tiebreaker with Bossier City and Asheville (N.C.) Post 70. All three teams finished pool play at 2-1, but Chesapeake (10 runs allowed) won the first tiebreaker and Bossier City (24 runs scored) won the second tiebreaker.
Head coach Larry Bowles noted his team’s slow starts in the Virginia state tournament and the Mid-Atlantic Regional, but they had no such problem in Shelby with a 9-2 win over Greece (N.Y.) in their opening game. They also edged Asheville 5-4 before losing to Bossier City.
Portland: Post 158 (46-5) finished runner-up to League City in the Stars Division. Both teams were 2-1 in pool play but League City took the head-to-head matchup, 7-6 on Friday.
Head coach Joe Duran praised his team’s offense heading into the tournament, and his optimism was backed up: the Barbers scored 35 runs in pool play, best in this year’s ALWS, with 13-5 and 16-10 wins after that opening loss.
Game 14: League City (Tex.) Post 554 vs. Bossier City (La.) Post 202, 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU
League City, in the ALWS for the fourth straight year, is seeking a second title to go with its 2023 championship. Bossier City is looking for its first title and Louisiana’s sixth overall.
League City: Post 554 (38-2) won the Stars Division thanks to a head-to-head win over Portland. League City also defeated Rockport (Ind.) on Sunday in the first ALWS game to use the designated runner rule in extra innings, after losing to Lincoln (Neb.) Post 500 on Saturday night.
Head coach Ronnie Oliver acknowledged his team’s accomplishment at reaching the ALWS in four consecutive seasons — Brooklawn (N.J.) Post 72 set the record with five straight years, from 2011 to 2015, and also had a four-year stretch from 1998 to 2001.
Bossier City: Post 202 (26-4) finished second in the three-way tiebreaker atop the Stripes Division. Bossier City rebounded from an opening loss to Asheville (N.C.) to defeat Greece (N.Y.) and Chesapeake (Va.).
Head coach Dane Peavy counted on the experience of 10 returning players from last year’s ALWS participant, and it worked with a semifinal appearance.
