2025 Americanism numbers show impact and growth

The Americanism and Children & Youth By-the-Numbers report shows youth program growth and post-level support. 

The 2025 American Legion By-the-Numbers report for Americanism highlights the organization’s commitment to youth. This is visible through youth program participation numbers and growth, amount awarded in scholarships, flag activities, veteran family financial support and more.

In 2025, the American Legion Boys State and Oratorical Contest programs saw growth from 2024. Boys State grew by 662 rising high school seniors and Oratorical grew by nearly 3,000 orators across 50 departments.

Numbers below are from the 2024-2025 American Legion Consolidated Post Report. Among the highlights: 

Legion Baseball – 52,308 youth from 2,906 teams played, representing 50 American Legion departments, Canada and Puerto Rico.         

Boys State – 14,047 rising high school seniors participated in 50 American Legion Boys State programs.        

Oratorical Contest – 9,370 youth partcipated at the post level.       

Scholarships – 760 students were awarded over $2.3 million in academic scholarships from the national level.

Scouting – 2,547 Scouting units are chartered by Legion Family across the nation.

Youth Cadet Law Enforcement – 22 American Legion departments have an established program.

Old Glory – 4,394 Flag Day activities were conducted by posts.         

Get Out the Vote – 1,350 activities were conducted.         

Citizenship – 380 citizenship and naturalization activities were supported by posts.        

TFA – 69 minor children of 34 eligible veterans in 19 states received an American Legion Temporary Financial Assistance grant to help support the children’s basic needs of food, shelter, utilities and clothing. (subject to final audit)

CWF – $851,542 in American Legion Child Well-being Foundation grants were awarded to nine nonprofits.
