My beautiful fiance and I decided that Veterans Day would be a great day to get married. I served my country during peacetime in the Air Force from 1982 to 1986 before being medically discharged. Sunday is a special day for me, as I remember the men and women who served before and after me. i love history and especially books on former military encounters and first-hand accounts, from the French & Indian Wars to the present. Until recently I was the chaplain at Post 143 in Post Falls, Idaho, until I moved away, but to be able to minister to the families of the fallen and to hear their stories about their loved one's past - I gleaned a lot about what life was really like In the trenches that I did not get to experience.
To take this day to get married is also a day of remembrance and celebration. If it was not for the men and women who served before me, I would not have the freedoms I have today....too many people forget about that, sadly. Thank all of you who have served your country with honor and distinction. I am proud to be called an American, and proud to stand beside you today.

About the author:

I served in the Air Force from 1982 to 1986 as supply and was stationed, after basic and tech school, in Clovis, New Mexico, and Fairbanks, Alaska. I enjoyed my time and only wish I could have stayed in. I became the chaplain of Post 143 in Post Falls, Idaho, earlier this year but then bought a house too far away to be able to do my duty and resigned. I hope to get back in it again one day.
