Saying Goodbye

Deep in the jungle
From high above
Comes the roar of thunder
From the enemies gun
I hunker down
And cover my head
Praying to God
For the men I've led
I sit in my foxhole
Late at night
Holding a young soldier
Oh so tight
I lie and tell him
It will be okay
As I see a chopper
In the light of day
The chopper came
A little to late
For this young soldier
Is at Heaven's gate
I lay him in the chopper
And away they fly
As I sit here crying
And saying goodbye
